Pokhara News. Number of divorces cases filed in Kaski district has decreased in fiscal year 2076/07.
Contrary to previous years, the trend of gradual increase in divorce cases filed in Kaski district in previous years has ended as only 613 divorce cases were registered in the fiscal year 2076/07. As per Ram Chandra Upadhyaya, Information Officer of Kaski District Court this is a decrease by 268 cases compared to the previous fiscal year. In fiscal year 2075/076, 881 divorce cases were registered in the Kaski District Court. He said the reason for the decline in number of cases could be due to lockdown that was imposed since April 26 due to Cvid 19.
According to the Kaski District Court, the number of divorce cases has been increasing every year for the past three years. Court records shows that 759 divorce cases were registered in the fiscal year 2074/07 while 668 divorce cases were registered in the fiscal year 2073/07.
The surge in increasing divorce cases in past year was due to new provision which gives privilege to men as well to file divorce. The new Civil Code, which came into force on September 20, 2075 BS gave way for men to go directly to the court to file divorce. Still the number of cases registered by women plaintiffs is lot higher as compared to those cases filed by men for divorce.
In the fiscal year 2075/076, only 183 men filed divorce cases in the Kaski District Court as compared to 698 by female plaintiffs. The number of divorce cases registered as male plaintiffs has further declined to 140 in 2076/07 fy.
Similarly fy 2076/77 saw 2339 cases registered in the Kaski District Court. The number of special petitions registered in the Kaski District Court in the fiscal year 2076/07 is 317. There are 150 applications for authorized inheritance, 133 applications for registered marriage, 5 applications for appointment of guardian, 27 applications for judicial declaration of death, 1 application for adoption and 1 application for bankruptcy.
Harish Chandra Gautam, officer of Kaski District Court informed 244 petitions were filed in the Kaski District Court in the fiscal year 2076/07. During the same period, 316 cases were registered in the conciliation center of Kaski District Court. The target of District Court to register cases and conclude them, however got impacted due to Covid-19.
